One test of the correctnedd of educational procedure is the happiness of the child.

The Montessori Method of education is based on the gained knowledge of Italian educator and physician Dr. Maria Montessori. She made it her lifelong dedication and devotion to develop an educational means to satisfy the needs of young learners. The method she developed is based on the belief the first 6 years of a child’s life are the most crucial in learning. At Inverleigh Montessori we believe that with a properly prepared environment we are able to meet the needs of the child during this crucial learning period.

The program is available to children 3-6 years. The mixed age groups provide opportunities for peer learning and teaching. The primary curriculum consists of practical life exercises that assist the children in learning to take care of themselves, each other and their environment. Sensorial activities provide specific opportunities for exploration which refine the senses. Language exercises nourish the child, enriching their vocabulary, enhancing self-expression and developing reading and writing skills. Mathematical materials offer an exciting, concrete experience of a number of concepts and operations. Cultural subjects include: Biology, Science, Geography, History, Art and Music. Everything in the classroom is child sized. Montessori materials are designed to help the child maximize the use of their physical senses.

An assured small child to teacher ratio allows for much more individualized attention then in a traditional classroom. The teachers act as guides, demonstrating the unique capabilities of each piece of material. The child is then given the opportunity to repeat the activity. It is through repetition that the child can master these materials.
